Flex-On IR-ON S Safety Stirrups
Description
The Flex-On IR-ON S is Flex-On's newest safety stirrup. A spring steel frame with a flexible arm that opens and releases your foot in a fall, in a sleek modern shape inspired by the Hunter H.
Underneath it is a true Flex-On: shock-absorbing elastomers between frame and footbed, and an ultra grip footbed that holds your foot still and keeps your heel down.
Important: the 40 kg rule
The release needs at least 40 kg (88 lb) of rider weight acting on the arm to open it. Lighter riders need the Flex-On Safe-On Junior instead. Ask us and we will order it in.
Like any safety stirrup, it reduces the risk of a trapped foot. No stirrup removes that risk completely.
Choose your footbed and tread
- Inclined footbed — angled so your heel drops and your leg stays still. The usual choice for jumping. If an angled footbed has given you ankle or calf tension before, go flat.
- Flat footbed — the traditional feel. Usually chosen for dressage and flatwork.
- Grip tread — a textured surface. Plenty for everyday riding.
- Ultra Grip tread — adds stainless steel studs. It keeps gripping even when the footbed picks up sand and grit. Most of our customers choose Ultra Grip.

Common questions
IR-ON S or Safe-On?
Both release your foot. The IR-ON S has the cleaner, more modern steel frame. The Safe-On gives you far more color choice, and costs $51 less.
Will the arm open by accident while I ride?
No. It needs your weight driven against it, which happens in a fall, not in normal riding.
What if it opens?
Push it back into place by hand. It is made to be reset over and over.
Do they fit my normal stirrup leathers?
Yes. Standard eye, standard leathers.
